About Me

My 25 years as a business professional includes experience as a practicing CPA, Controller, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Officer, Entrepreneur, Consultant, and Advisor.  I have created businesses, grown businesses, acquired businesses and sold businesses.  I have experienced the "thrill of victory," as well as the "agony of defeat."

One constant for me over the years has been my passion for accounting and finance.  And more specifically, the infinite number of points at which accounting/finance and operations interact.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, accounting and finance is less about keeping score than it is about control.  It's about understanding what happened yesterday, what's happening today, and using that information to plan for, and ultimately, shape what will happen tomorrow.

You don't have to be an auto mechanic to drive your car.  Similarly, you don't have to be a CPA in order to benefit from the use of financial information.  You only have to be able to understand it and use it to make informed decisions, optimize performance, and achieve your goals and objectives.

Not long ago, I realized that, without really thinking about it, I have been teaching the basic concepts of accounting and finance to non-financial managers throughout the better part of my entire professional career.  It just seemed natural, or more precisely, it seemed unnatural to do otherwise.  How can we hold people responsible for financial results without giving them the tools to do so?  I also recognized that my passion for these topics could be combined with my passion for communicating my perspectives about them.

With these thoughts in mind, I created this blog.  The goal is straightforward – to help you achieve financial literacy.
